Hildegard von Bingen was one of the pre-eminent figures of 12th century Europe. In the last few years, much of her music has been re-discovered and recorded. But her musical drama, Ordo virtutum, is a fascinating work that is rarely performed.
For highlights and more on Hildegard:
The Ordo Collective is a gifted and eclectic group of Edmonton-based professional and semi-professional singers under the direction of Eva Bostrand. This production premiered last spring in Edmonton. It was so well received that four more performances were scheduled for 2012, in Calgary, Edmonton, Victoria, and Vancouver.
Eva Bostrand, Producer and Artistic Director, is a voice teacher and the founder / artistic director of A Joyful Noise Choir and of the Sing for Life Society. Some members of The Ordo Collective also sing with Pro Coro Canada and many have studied with Eva.
Caroline Howarth has drawn on her experience as a director, educator and singer to stage this dramatic production. Caroline is a co-founder of Edmonton’s Concrete Theatre. She has also directed for the Fringe Festival and Edmonton Opera.
