About Christmas
Prior to Christmas Day, much of Western Christianity celebrates four weeks of Advent (Click Here for our Advent Schedule). The final preparations for Christmas are made on Christmas Eve.
On Christmas Eve, Anglicans traditionally celebrate a midnight Mass (Eucharist) which begins either at or sometime before midnight on Christmas Day. Christmas Eve is so popular at Christ Church Cathedral Vancouver that we now provide worshippers with 4 separate services. Midnight Mass is held in churches throughout the world, and marks the beginning of Christmas Day. Christmas Day marks the beginning of the larger season of Christmastide, which lasts twelve days.
Did you know? There are two differing accounts which describe the events surrounding Jesus’ birth, appearing in only 2 Gospel narratives. These biblical accounts are found in the Gospel of Matthew, namely Matthew 1:18, and the Gospel of Luke, specifically Luke 1:26 and 2:40.
