Order of the Diocese of New Westminster – CCC 2011
Order of the Diocese of New Westminster 2011
Three parishioners from Christ Church Cathedral were among those receiving the Order of the Diocese of New Westminster in the third installation of the Order. It took place at the Cathedral on November 6, 2011. The order was established by the Diocese as a way to honor outstanding service to parishes or the diocese, or both.
Mollie Ashworth
In 1976 after visiting a number of times and travelling from coast to coast, Mollie decided to immigrate to Vancouver where she joined her cousins and began a new adventure as a hopeful Canadian. Only four years later, in 1980, she enthusiastically became a Canadian citizen. Mollie settled in East Vancouver, in the parish of St. David of Wales, Vancouver. This is where Mollie found her spiritual home. Mollie instantly felt welcomed and at home at St. David’s and was a member of their congregation from 1978 to 2006. After retirement in 1988, from her long career as a Midwife, back in England and Practical Nurse at Grace Hospital, Mollie was able to dedicate more time to her involvement with St. David’s. Since 2006 Mollie has been a member of Christ Church Cathedral and has regularly been involved with the Cathedral’s monthly Senior’s Fellowship, the Thursday Eucharist and Healing Service and the Family Eucharist on Sunday mornings.
Joan Johnston
Joan was born in Winnipeg in 1927 where she was raised in an Anglican family. She studied physiotherapy at the University of Toronto and the University of Manitoba. Joan practiced as a physiotherapist in Winnipeg, on Vancouver Island, and since the early 1950s, in Vancouver at VGH and G.F. Strong Rehabilitation Centre, among other places, and finally at St. Paul’s Hospital where she directed the physiotherapy department for 21 years. Joan has been a member of Christ Church Cathedral parish since 1953.
Graham Rawlings
Graham immigrated in Canada in 1975 and made his home in the lower mainland. From 1982 to 1986, he was a member of St. Francis in the Wood parish, West Vancouver. After returning from work in Nepal in 1989, Graham and his wife Shirley joined Christ Church Cathedral parish. In addition to his service to the Cathedral, Graham has been a board member of the 127 Society for Housing from 2000 to the present; he now serves as vice president.
